How Often Should You Really Visit the Dentist?
“Every six months” is the rule most of us grew up with, but the right interval depends on you. Here’s how we decide when to see you next, and why it can save you time and money.
Patient Care
Practical ways we help anxious patients feel calm and in control, from your first call to the chair.

If the thought of a dental appointment makes your stomach turn, you are far from alone. Dental anxiety is very common, and it’s something our team deals with every day. The most important thing to know is that we won’t judge you for it.
For many people it comes from a bad experience in the past, often as a child. For others it’s the unfamiliar sounds, lying back with little control, or worry about pain or cost. Putting off an appointment makes the worry grow, and small problems can turn into bigger ones.
Let us know when you book, or as soon as you arrive, that you’re nervous. It changes how we work with you straight away. We can:
You don’t need to have treatment on the first visit. Many nervous patients simply come to meet the team, look around and talk through their concerns. When you’re ready, we’ll do a gentle examination and take it from there.
Clifton tip: if there’s something specific you dread, such as the needle or the noise, tell us. Often there’s a simple way to make it easier.
The longer you leave it, the more likely it is that treatment will be needed. Regular, short and calm visits are the best way to keep your teeth healthy and your anxiety low. Call us on 01686 626252 and tell us how you feel. We’ll take it from there.
